Get it. Do load development. Be happy.
Using 2f regular Goex (or Scheutzen) in a 50cal, you may see heavier fouling than with 3f. With that as a known issue, there's no problem using it.
To the comment about using 3f for more shots per pound. That is NOT the reason we do it in N-SSA competition. We do it because of fouling control. Fouling in a minie ball rifle is a variable that must be controlled to maintain accuracy through a string of shots. Using 3f makes this much easier and less of an issue. A side benefit is more shots per pound. Some in the N-SSA do use 2f in rifle muskets, but if you start looking through the teams, 3f is much, much more prevalent. Perfect example- when doing load development for my 42 Macon 69cal smoothbore, I tried 2f as part of the development process. Fouling was heavier than with 3f Old E. Heavier fouling in this gun leads to harder loading (we don't have time to wipe) and then to loss of accuracy as a shot string goes on. That's much less of a problem with 3f Old E (now Swiss). With 2f, I could go about 4 shots before loading got difficult and accuracy started to fall off. Using 3f cured that and now I can go up to 12 shots straight before problems begin to rise and since we shoot against the clock, time will have expired by the 10th.
