wow! we are bad mouthing a product no one as even used yet. New owners just started out and some want free donations. Others say how hard to clean.

I hear your concerns about Goex and I want to reassure everybody that we absolutely support black powder shooting. This community is very important to us. I became a N-SSA member and will be shooting at the spring nationals (smoothbore and carbine company matches, 46th Illinois).
Yes, the military has been an important part of getting us up and running, but they're not our only customer. We're getting ready to restart production and can't wait to get black powder back on shelf this summer at distributors and dealers.

If you find powder to be confusing don’t ask about patch lube, cleaning solutions, or how to remove a stuck ball.
Now that is.... it was Scheutzen when I bought some several years ago, then it was made by GOEX, until GOEX shut down. Now it's back to being made by Scheutzen.
SO for the folks, not just @bprvan and @dave951 alone, who bust on GOEX for not "donating" powder to local youth groups, do you now or do you plan on the same reaction to anything made by Hodgdon or ammo using Hodgdon powder? I have read Hodgdon's guidelines for such donations, and most of the folks that have complained about GOEX in the past have no problem with Pyrodex, or any of the modern Hodgdon products.... and the local youth groups wouldn't get a donation there either....

Clearly I shoot 3F T7 in everything so I’ve no dog exactly in this hunt.. but not supporting a NEW domestic BP powder manufacturer seems a bit like a self inflicted wound .. both currently imported BP’s are forcing each other’s prices to float below Triple 7 but even more so because of Pyrodex and it’s pricing the imports currently have a price ceiling for you CURRENT availability of BP
Remove ONE BP importer and your BP price raises
Add ONE BP domestic manufacturing plant and you will see supply improve and dollar to a doughnut says prices will likely get better
Making domestic BP production successful is extremely important in the long run for our sport
A few cases of “free” goods may cause some to understandably cause some loyalty but don’t take your eye off the shell with the pea under it .. we need a diverse stable supply and prices to keep our sport alive

When you “give” a donation to a major corporation they accumulate the money then get a tax deduction for donating your money to someone else. One of the ways they can claim they “lost” money. Same thing with athletes and their foundations. Collect your money, pay themselves and their family to run the foundation then claim a tax deduction for all the philanthropy they did. I just got, from a lovely widow, two lbs. of 1F Elephant new in cans for $10 each. I think it's perfect for re-enactments and muskets, the big 69's & 75's.I shoot a LOT of rounds through BP revolvers, mostly because I just like them, also because I used to shoot lots and lots of rounds through "unmentionable" revolvers and it's cost prohibitive now. So the percussion revolvers are getting 98% of the shooting workload and I'm having a great time with this "change" .......even though back in the 90's, when I first got into BP shooting, all I could get was the old metal can Goex and it worked just fine. I didn't even know what Swiss was
I did love the Old Eynsford from Goex, I doubt we'll ever see that again. I have a few lbs of it that I'm holding on to
But you're right, in both my revolvers and .58 Rifled-Muskets, the Schuetzen just fouls less and is easier to clean
Honestly, if Goex comes back I'll buy all 3 brands...plus it's price dependent. They all have a use. Swiss just goes to my high end target rifles that I rarely shoot, Goex OE was my go-to for .58 rifles, and Goex 1F was my .69 musket powder......Schuetzen became my revolver powder . Although I mix and match and try stuff in other guns too. There's room in I think all of our hearts for all the BP brands. I even play with subs too
We are loyal to our wallets too. A 25 lb case of Schuetzen is currently about $560 so Goex/Estes will either need to turn out an OE grade powder for a higher $ or stay competitive with Schuetzen
I spent a lot of time with my BP firearms working up a load for each one of them (15) using Goex powder. While it was enjoyable doing so I just enjoy shooting them now without working up loads. Not by chance I have enough Goex (I hope) to last me until it is back on the shelf. When it comes available I will continue to use Goex. All the rest of the brands may be as good and some even better than Goex but that doesn’t concern me. I like Goex and will continue to use it. I do like the idea that it will be made in the USA. Not concerned about how much cleaner or dirtier other brands are. Not worried about cleaning time. I don’t put a stop watch on my shooting hobbies. If I was worried about how fast I could do something I would build a pro stock car and start racing again.

In 2011 a friend bought me 5 pounds of Goex, (bulk), from the Winchester skirmish. It cost $7.00/lb. I should've bought the whole trailer!!
If GOEX makes a good product at a good price I will support them. If they start making money i hope they will support clubs as Scheutzen does. I have some I won at a match, it's good stuff.

What is this foul thing "Pyrodex" of which you speak?
In our work it's Scheutzen unless otherwise dictated by the group we're working with. We cast all projectiles, round ball and minie, from donated lead. Caps come from Scheutzen.
In my "other" stuff, it's IMR.
