Is there anywhere cheaper than Powder Inc to buy Goex 3F ? I am going to buy a 25lb case and it is $13.10 a lb at Powder Inc, including shipping.

This Goex distributor has always had about the best case prices for me:

I have always found Powders Inc to have the best prices. Go for the KIK not USA made but IMHO a better powder and cheaper.

Sully,

The thing to do is find someone locally to split the case with you. You can mix the granulations. Don't cost any more. I split a case with a guy couple of years ago. Got mostly FF and a couple of FFF. Won't need any for a long time.

Give Grafs a look. I've been ordering from them lately because they beat the other guys prices.

HD

Sully, I also recomend the KIK brand powder. It has been great for me in 2F and 3F. The 2F seems almost as hot as the GOEX 3F. At 10.75 LB vs 13.10LB it is cheaper and slightly better.

What ever brand you decide to go with the case order is the way to go. The powder will never go bad and only go up in price.
Have fun shooting all that powder up!

I bought 1 pound of KIK ffg my last order and have shot it a bit. I like it so far. Put most of the shots almost through the same hole at 50 yards. Fouling a little harder than Goex. But Im gonna order more for sure. How is the KIK FFF?

I like the KIK prices also.
My guns and tired eyes don't notice a diff. between it and Goex.

My new Investarms 54 smoothbore carbine(Rifle reamed to SB) likes the stuff. Oh yea!...I only use 3f.

Back Creek Gun Shop, a major N-SSA supplier, has it for $10.80 a pound in 25-pound lots, but I don't know what shipping is. They are, however, north of Winchester and, depending on where you are in West (BG) Va., it might be worth the drive to pick it up. You might wish to check with them at:

Good people, the Venskoskes

I have to ask, since its quite a bit cheaper. What type of powder is Jacks Brand?? Surely they dont make thier own!! And being a GOEX master dis. would it be BULK GOEX repacked?? Maybe? Will be (hopefully) getting a bonus at work, and would like to buying a case or 2 of powder.

According to the chart, Jack's is selling Goex powder. Since they are in Louisianna, I suspect they have almost no delivery costs in getting it from the new factory down there. That is how he can undercut the prices from the other vendors.

Paul, I looked on Jacks website, they have GOEX(master distributor) But they also have thier own label. Just curious as to what it is, if its decent, as it was a bit cheaper than even their GOEX.

I'm thinking Jacks brand of Powder could be for reenactment.
:hmm: Could be the reason for the cheaper price.

ABout all you can do is call them and ask about their own label powder. I suspect its Goex powder that does not meet Goex standards. This, because they are a distributor for the Goex powder, and are located near the factory.

Years ago, when the factory at Moosic, PA was having trouble with quality control, I acquired a few cans of Goex that were, frankly, terrible. Lots of fines in the powder. Someone at the factory thought they could mix different granules to come up with the same PRESSURE loads and it would not make a difference. In cannons, it probably doesn't. But they didn't think about how it was that we could keep that powder " mixed " in our cans or horns so that we did get an even mix, instead of only load of coarse powder, followed by a load of very fine powder. It was so bad you could actually hear the difference between like powder charges.

As has been suggested, I would be thinking in terms of using the really cheap powder for blanks for re-enactments, and parades, rather than using it with PRB or conicals to shoot them. Since I have already learned that screening powders to check on their consistent size of granules produces more consistent charges, and resulting velocities, I would be inclined to screen the cheaper powder to see what I had. And, this would be a very serious topic of discussion with the people at Jack's.

I sent an email this AM, it is reenactment powder, mostly goex BUT I will stick with regular goex.

Sully,
J&J is my GOEX dietributor also, primarily because I can avoid hazmat and shipping costs by picking it up. Used to be able to buy direct from GOEX (and DuPont) when they produced here also. Boy, I wish I bought kegs of it back when it was $2 a pound!

Thanks for all the replies. The powder I want is for my personal use and will be used for PRB in 54 cal. I decided to go with Powder Inc for the Goex 3F.( I should have looked closer at Jacks web sight. It is .53 cheaper a lb ) Thanks again.
