Hi. I was curious if it is possible to modify a T/C Hawken 15/16 stock to a 1 inch stock? And what the process would be. I know I would have to at least buy a new tang, but I am stumped after that. Thanks.

Obviously the entire barrel channel will have to be enlarged but the biggest problem will be maintaining the proper fit of the lock.

Because the locks bolster fits tightly against the side of the barrel you will either end up with the lockplate sticking 1/32 of an inch outside the lock panel or you will have to file material off of the locks bolster.

If you do file the bolster down the lock can not be used with a 15/16 inch barrel so give this some thought before doing it.

I assume you want a larger caliber barrel? If so, I think that Green Mountain at one time made a 15/16 inch drop in barrel in .54 caliber.
It may be hard to find one because there seems to have been quite a few folks who wanted them but there may still be some available somewhere.

If your wanting a .58 caliber drop in barrel with a 1 inch octagon that too may be difficult to find.

I've got one that someone else did the work on. It started life as a 1", but they replaced the barrel with one tapered from 1 1/8" to 15/16". It's a 26" 58 cal and about as handy and well balanced as a guy can imagine.

I like it so much I got to comparing the stock with some others, just to see what would be involved in enlarging a barrel channel and refitting the lock plate, whether tapered or straight.

Man.... Whoever did the work is a better man than me. I wouldn't take it on, even if I knew what I was doing! :rotf:

Be better off buying a 1" barrel channel stock from eBay or someplace like that & then swap the parts & then sell the stock ya have & recoup most or possibly all of your money. Lots of guys buy a fancy wood stock from Pecatonice & then swap the parts. You could put a WTB ad in the Classifieds on this site & maybe someone has an extra one, then swap parts & then sell your stock. You will need longer tang bolts if they are the kind that goes to the trigger, dif. nosecap, possibly more.

Enlarging the barrel gets into a whole can of worms, as you have to enlarge it in 5 flats & then you could have issues with RR, lock fit, tang fit, possibly trigger fit as the barrel will be in the stock deeper, etc.

One guy on her can tell you exactly what it will take, and that is Roundball. He know T/C's like the back of his hand.....

If its a .54 you want, Green Mountain and Rice offer one in 15/16. I own a GM, would choose the rice if i were to buy one new!

Zonie, KW,

I just saw some 15/16" .54 GM drop-in's in capper on Track of the Wolf's website. I am not sure this is what KW is looking for but there are some and they still make the blanks as well.

As far as modification of the stock I think I would rather just buy a used 1" on EBay rather than go to all that work.

Yup agree with everyone. Little to far out of my skills. Soooo the search will continue :) Thanks for the info everyone. :hatsoff:
