Same as when using it on your hands. If you get your hands wet first - gojo don't work.

But dry - works great!!

I know a couple guys at the local club use gojo as a lube on their patches.

Several guys use windex as a patch lube. They say it cleans as it lubricates. I gotta try that some day.

If you go through those same motions with soap and water you accomplish the same exact thing
You're not real big on the whole GoJo idea huh? I think you should try it before making false accusations.

I'm not making ANY accusations at all,
I simply find it a little nut's for folks to go through all the clammer trying to find some secret gloroius mix or magic too clean something thats simply cleaned with soapy water and has been for centuries.
:youcrazy:
What ever trips yer trigger man, if you need gojo by all means use it. I'll keep mine in the garage for cleaning my hands.

I am the one that turned RC on to it. I use it to remove stain and finish from my hands mostly.. Tried it in my muzzleloader and use 4 cleaning patches and done. I have used everything under the sun to clean barrels. This is by far the easiest, quickest and works the best for me. I have used it in small caliber rifles and big smoothbores all with the same results. :v I wasn't looking for a "secret glorious mix or magic" just was wondering how it would work.
Now people can mark it up as voodoo or blackmagic all the want and continue to use just water or some other mix and that is fine by me.. I will continue to use gojo and make less of a chore out of cleaning. :v

I've heard of using gojo for cleaning puposes, anyone have their opinions on it? How do you use it and what (if any) complaints do you have about it? Any alternitive cleaning methods are welcome. Thanks ya'll! Watch yer top knot, rushcc.

Liquid water is the best choice.
People use all kinds of stuff and methods to cleam MLs. As a result there are a lot of damaged guns out there.
Water dissolves the fouling best. Cool water for BP hot water for the others.
Go-jo is for taking grease off mechanics hands and contains petroleum solvents the last time I read up on it.
All soaps are corrosive and need to be washed away with clean water as the final process if cleaning with soapy water etc.

I have a couple bore mops in my kit along w/a bore brush. hit the bore with the brush, damp patch then gojo on a mop really cleans the residue. dump a bit of hot water from the kettle down to flush the flash channel, blow air thru then dry patch. wipe down the barrel and lock with a piece of flanned damp with gojo.
real handy when camped out, the brand that comes in a tube is real handy, has lanolin in it. that may have something to do with the effectiveness as patch lube (don't over do it a little dab'll do ya for the patch)

I've been using Windex as of lately and it works quite well. As long as the go Jo is not the type that has pumice in it why not !

I was at Roys picking up a gun/shooting and he mentioned GoJo handcleaner as a barrel cleaning agent...I stopped at the local auto parts store picked some up on my way home...Gave it a try and I`m impressed at how quickly and how clean the barrel cleaned up...GoJo from now on...

Doesn't Gojo have pumice in it or is the original just solvent and the Cherry has the pumice in it? Not sure I want to lap the barrel every time I scrub, no?

LD

Buy the stuff in the white tub, no pumice. Its not like you are running a patch up and down the barrel several times anyway.. a dollop of gojo down the fouled bore(no water)with one patch, forth and back a couple times then rinse. :v

:hmm: Now that sounds worth trying and I think I definitely will. So far the quickest way to clean that I've found is to scrape the breech plug face at the range, dry patch it, run a Hoppes patch down the bore and follow with two more dry patches. When I get home it only takes a few (5 or 6) wet/dry patches to finish up. If I don't take that 4 to 5 minutes at the range it will take at least a couple dozen patches plus brushing to get it clean.

I get my barrels squeeky clean with cold water and a dash of dishwashing soap. Doubt if it cost me a penny a trip. Use what you want but water has been around as long as guns have and it still works to clean them!!!!! FRJ

neighbor jus bought an old enfield, got it fixed up,an he started shootin it,,smilin! his first bp gun..wanted to learn how top clean..so we did,.. with gojo..he said ..."that's it? that's all? that fast?.. always figured they were a pia to clean..guess was wrong..that's easy.."
quick easy cheap an very good job..but to each there own............
