Checked the bore of my 40 yesterday just to make sure things looked ok. Well they were far from ok. Fouling and rust apparent. I cleaned it last time as usual, using cva foam and some other items. I tried TOW's bore cleaner this time, just filled the barrel, plugged the nipple and let it set over night. Pulled it out tonight and cleaned again. could not believe the amount of pure black liquid coming put of the clean out. Used some patches and a bronze brush to keep cleaning. decided to repeat the process tonight. I'm impressed with this bore cleaner, first time to use it and planning to order more.

I prefer dihydrogen monoxide, at room temperature, when cleaning my BP rifles and guns. Followed by a rust preventative.

Sometimes also called hydrogen hydroxide - great stuff. :applause:

Otherwise known as "water"

That's about the only chemistry I remember from high school. I guess I need to be more diligent about cleaning. My barrel is pinned, so no removal like a hooked breech. Only thing I don't like about it. I need to get some tubing so I can pump solvent thru the nipple. Lesson learned.

I add a bit of surficant and ethyloxylates to my H2O to help trap the crud and get it off the metal - either Pine-Sol or Murphy's Oil soap.

I don't remove barrels or use a modern tube. I just remove the lock and plug the vent and pour a but of soapy water down, slosh it around and pour it out. From there I lay the firearm on old towels with the muzzle below the breech and run damp patches up (or a bore mop) and alternate dry with wet. Then a Barricade soaked patch. The next day another Baricade patch.

Gentlemen there is a different between hydrogen hydroxide, hydrogen peroxide and dihydrogen monoxide. One you can drink, one with which you can cleanse, and one which can alter your DNA so badly that even Abby on NCIS can not tell who you are!!
