I now have read the statement in original. The DJV says that the ruled 100 meter energy is only valid for rifle cartridges. When using other cartridges (slugs) or muzzleloaders you don't take care about this energies.

So now you can even use that .45 with a patched round ball for hunting roes. Don't have to mess with conicals.

Put 'em right thru the boiler room! Show them non-believers what a round ball can do! :thumbsup:

I will do this as soon as possible. Roe hunting season in GE starts again on 1st of may. Until now I will test around a bit and try to get some redfoxes.

I'm very glad to hear that, my friend! I have trouble understanding why Germany was resistant to using muzzleloaders to start with. Germany has one of the longest histories of muzzleloader use in hunting. Longer than the US for sure. Anyway, I'm glad for all of you over there. Now maybe they'll become even wiser and drop the energy requirements soon.

Sorry to jump into this thread late, but I just registered in this forum.
This subject is of particular interest to me as I have many ties to friends in Bayern and have made friends with Jaegers there. Matter of fact, I had a guest staying with us last week who is a forestry person in Bayern and said that hunting with a M/L was still forbidden. I only hope that this person is not up on the laws.
Anyways , Good luck and hope to see afew pictures of rehbock taken with a M/L.

The forestry person normally should it know better. ML hunting was never forbidden by law in GE. It was not well seen from some members of the hunting association in GE. The german hunting law rules only that hunting with bows and crossbows is forbidden, but not with ML. The ML have not even bring the 100m energies which are ruled for riflecartridges (1000 and 2000 J at 100 meters). Because as the law said it is only for rifle cartridges and a ML don't shoot them. The energie rules are also not valid for shotguns when using slugs. But nevertheless a .54 with conical and a strong load is able to reach 2000 J at 100 meters, so you can use it for red deer, wild boars and other biggame. The minimum energy for roes is 1000 J at 100 m. This is even brouhgt by cal.45 with conicals. But as I said a conical isn't necessary. You can also hunt with PRB's. If your friend can't believe this, he can ask me.

Some of the modern hunters in GE have problems with the ML, because you have no big scope on it and that needs a good trained shooter. Many GE hunters are embarrassing not well trained in rifle handling and shooting.

Since the statement of the hunting association we know that the ruled minimum energies are not valid for ML and shotguns.So nomore use to fool around with measurements of muzzlevel and so on.
