Another version is the CVA Hunter Carbine in 54Cal. It has a 24" barrel with a 1:48 twist. I shot my elk with one this year.My version of Thumper is a .54 cal Lyman Deer Stalker has a 1/48 barrel that is 25” long with a white bead front sight and peep rear with the barrel sight folded. But I am following all your work because I may need another one
Try T7 FFFg, but reduce your maximum load by 10%. So if the max load is 100 grs of powder, use 90 gr. Should give you the same velocity. I used the CVA Deerslayer 375 gr for the elk. I wanted something heavier so I can get through and through passage of the bullet. That is what kicked me off down this rabbit holeI need to start experimenting with my .54 and different bullets, lubes and maybe powders have used just FFg in the .54 but have 777 and pyrodex rs. Have used them only in a in line
I will try that.Try T7 FFFg, but reduce your maximum load by 10%. So if the max load is 100 grs of powder, use 90 gr. Should give you the same velocity. I used the CVA Deerslayer 375 gr for the elk. If you can find them a 450 grain Plains bullet should work well.
