You're good. You're REALLY good.Actually spending a little time in the shop!
It’s gonna drive lots of us inside.lolWell, what ever I was doing I need to do it more often. Winter is coming so that should drive me inside.
It's been a long time since I've been schooled.Try using a very small needle file on those scallops on the tang carving to straighten out the lines. You want a tool with a relatively long sole or bearing surface so it doesn't get pushed around and dig with the alternating hard and soft spots in the wood. Likewise, using a flat file on the rear of the scalloped design to even out the curve.
Doing symmetrical designs can be very frustrating at times. It's really easy to dig too deep and make your relief wind up being too high. You're not there right now, but it's something to be on watch for starting to happen.
The picture looks like there is a slightly lesser margin on the right side vs the left side at the rear of the tang (slightly lopsided) you may wish to address.
Also a very slight flattened spot in the curve margin at about the 7:00 -8:00 o'clock position.
A couple of flattish spots in the pencil drawings yet, but it looks pretty good overall.
Try flipping the camera angles 90 and 180 degrees when examining your work and drawings. That often helps identify problem areas. Blowing up a small 2" x 3" area on the computer to full screen like you have really helps doesn't it?
Overall, you're doing great so far. Keep at it!
Yeah...I was a little disappointed when I opened the thread. Thought I was going to learn a new technique!Relief farving......
