if the stone you’re cutting with a laser is damp does it split flakes off the surface when the laser hits?
Great question, I have knapped but never Lazer cut, I have Lazer welded though, it takes all the fun and artout of welding.

Here in Oregon you can use lead shot for upland birds but must use steel (or other non-lead) shot for waterfowl. My assumption was that they didn't want pellets that didn't penetrate to end up in the water.

Wouldn't it be terrible if nature was polluted with lead, let's stick to chucking beer cans and batteries out our windows as we drive by. Lol I think our politicians are just desperate for attention, and need a good spanking!

I remember when that restriction started, they said that the ducks/waterfowl would dive to the bottom and ingest small gravel/sand to help with food digestion.(gizzard) in doing so, they would ingest the lead and end up dead from lead poisoning. They would be eaten by other scavengers which would become lead poisoned as well…
So to mediate this, they restricted lead shot for waterfowl hunting.
Ducks full of lead can’t take off, fly as high or keep up with the lead free ducks. Lol

Quite a few years ago I was at the range shooting a couple of my sidelocks when a young man pulled up. We chatted a little while I was swabbing my bore and he said that he brought his just purchased used T/C Hawken.
I had loaded and took another shot after confirming he had his "ears on" and noticed him getting his bench organized. I saw a can of IMR4227 and I asked him "is that the powder you plan on using?" He said "yea, this barrel doesn't have the warning label on it so it OK right?!"
I told him that he was very lucky I was there and he probably could have used it - once. I explained the difference in how the powders worked and why he couldn't use smokeless in his rifle then traded his new can of 4227 for a new can of Goex FFg I had in the truck.
I went on to show him how to measure the powder, load and shoot it. Thankfully it was a caplock as a flinter would have had more teaching.
I've seen him at the range many times since and being that he doesn't reload, he saves and gives me all his brass whenever we meet up there.
I am SO glad you where there !! God bless you !!!

Why? Not my job to educate people. Nobody stepped forward to educated me when I was brand new. What I know, I taught myself, he couldve done the same

Yup, that just one of the many things that makes our hobby and sport so popular among would-be beginners. They take a look around and see all these old crocks keeping things to themselves, and walk away....

[Sarcasm off button depressed]

I, like a whole bunch of people, don’t interact with strangers at the range. Who knows what information they are trying to get from you to decide if you are worth robbing or not? I refer strangers to the NMLRA for advice.

This thread was started concerning what things idiots have said to us along the way, not "why didn't you help the person"! Maybe you should start a new thread entitled " what things idiots said and then I helped them out to make myself feel good"!

One of the most memorable ones, as of recent, I heard from a so called "Firearms instructor", that without knowing my personal vision limitations, went as far as to inform me (on an open forum) that I do not need to "molest my stock fixed sights". That "I just need to learn how to shoot".

I changed out my inferior sights to a peep and different style/dia front bead that I can actually see clearly and my accuracy increased considerably. I went from about a 50/50 success rate on squirrels to near 95%.

Got to love the elitists that knows all. :)

Hey Sid, These things are called threads and not I-beams because they tend to meander. If you crack a beer you can just enjoy the evolution in progress. Way more fun than being grumpy. And, BTW, that was me at the range that you wouldn't talk to. And I only said what I did because of your 36 inch group. Took me only another 20 years to find out that most ML shooters are pretty friendly people. Nice diplomacy. I was trolling you and it worked. Try a thicker patch. SW

”If this were my range I wouldn’t allow you left-handed shooters use flintlocks. For your own protection…”
