I have a new 50 cal Traditions Kentucky...I wanted a flint pistol, already have 2 lyman plains in 50 cal percussion. However, should the flint, when all the way down, rest on the pan? I have the flint aligned with the frizzen face, but I am wondering if my flint is to long, after about 5 dry fires, got good spark and no chips or breaking of the flint, it just seems to rest on the pan.

 Thanks for any future answers....at least the good ones that is...lol

No...the flint should not make contact with the pan...your flint is too long...of course it will work but hitting the pan will shorten its life a great deal...
Can you move the flint back at all? maybe cut a hole in the flint leather so the cock screw can go thru the leather therby giving you a bit more room to move the flint backwards????

Yep, I have the tools and will shorten to fit just above the pan. Then make a few flints to keep as spares for that pistol.

Thanks :hatsoff:
