I built my GPR .50 percussion from kit several years ago. I replaced the trigger with one from TOW. I use the adjustable rear sight that came with the kit. Recently I've been trying to improve my off-hand skills. I usually shoot standing, off-hand at 100 yards with NRA 100 yard military rifle targets. At first, most of my target groups were around 12" for 5 shots, then 10" and more recently 8".
Well today I headed back to the range, shooting again at 100 yards. I fired several sighters to begin and found that the gun was shooting low, but on center. After shifting the rear sight a bit, my third sighter came just below the black. One more slight adjustment and I was in the black.
My next 6 shots were 2-9's, 2-10's, 1-10X and one 6. I pulled the 6 by accidentally firing before I was sighted in on target. Excluding the #6 flyer, that's a 5 shot group slightly over 4". My final shot was at a bowling pin hung at the 100 yard line. The shot was dead on and the pin went flying. Needless to say, I decided to quit on a high note. I know there are others out there that can do better, but for me and my 56 year old eyes, I'm one happy camper.
To all those considering thew Great Plains Rifle by Lyman, I say two thumbs way up! :hatsoff:
