I wanted to replace the rear sight on my GPR with the more traditional fixed sight. I tried replacing the sight that comes installed on the rifle with the second fixed sight Lyman also provides. The sight slid right out of the dovetail, barely touched it. Has anyone else had this problem? Suggestions?

Yup, it's standard. And wrong of course! But Lyman has never gotten around to changing the specs for their deliveries from Investarms.

You can get a replacement from TOW or wherever, but most will require you to file the sight base for a better fit. But there's an easier way.

Flip the sight over so the blade is down and open your bench vise just wide enough so the blade drops down in the gap while the base hangs up on the jaws. Now use a punch to put half a dozen dimples or crates in the bottom of the sight base. That raises enough metal to tighten the gap when you tap the sight into the barrel dovetail.

What Brown Bear said will work just fine as a fix I'm sure. On mine, I used a bit of scrap brass to make a shim under the sight. Works fine too. Really like the sight picture.... works well for my 67 year old eyes.

I contacted Lyman and they are sending me a new rear sight for free. The guy I spoke to said that the dovetail on the barrel became bigger when the original adjustable sight was installed at the factory. Whether that is the case or not I guess I will see if the new sight works.

Memphis1211, I too replaced the adjustable factory sight* with the fixed sight, but the latter was a perfect fit. Who knows if the Lyman rep's. explanation was correct or whether Investarms changed its specs?

*wouldn't hold windage; didn't like the sight picture for offhand shooting.

Interesting! They must have installed the adjustable sight on the barrel in my kit, then removed it. Because right out of the box that bare barrel let the sight slip right through! :rotf:

I suspect it's pure :bull: but probably what he was told to say.

it was about a little better then .025 space under my GPR fixed sight, two shims on top of each other made from a tuna fish can top was the ticket!
