What a nice deer.
Yep, that was a special day for sure. He's growing up, won't need me much longer.Congratulations to the young man!! Both of you will remember that day forever!

Nice storyHe and I were sitting in an ambush spot I had cut out years ago. Spot is only a quarter mile from where I shot my buck two days previously. Just at dark, he said "I see a buck scraping, here he comes." There was eight inches of snow where we hunt so the buck stood out pretty good even in the darkness. When the buck turned broadside he shot but the gun just clicked causing the buck to stop and stare at us sitting forty yds away (have been having trouble with the caps on the stock nipple) I whispered "pull hammer back and shoot again." He did and the rifle fired dropping the buck.
About wore out the batteries in the headlamps getting him out to the pick-up but a memory neither of us will forget. Not his first buck, (he's shot one every year since he was 10, plus a bull moose), but his first BP buck. He was shooting a Lyman Deerstalker 50cal with 75gr powder pushing a 335gr conical. He will always need you! Even when we're gone they still need us-with everything we teach/instill in them is like still being there for them.Yep, that was a special day for sure. He's growing up, won't need me much longer.
