Is there a holster that will fit my GPP nicely and protect it when I am walking in the woods carring my GPR. It doesn't have to be time period pc in any way (Not out with my leathers on)
Something cheaper that will afford me to carry my rifle and not worry about my pistol.
Thanks from Wisconsin :hmm: :hatsoff:

During the Napoleonic Wars the British Army issued canvas flap holstersn (similar to ACW flap holsters). They were attached to a shoulder carrage and I've seen some indications that some may also have been fitted with a belt loop. You can make one in leather as a more durable solution.

I don't know of anyone making them commerically but they are simple enough to make your self with a little trial and error some canvas and a sewing machine.

I've been carrying mine crossdraw style using the belt hook. Comfortable for me but I'm right handed.
I think a lefty could use it crossdraw with the hook outside the belt and the pistol itself tucked in the belt. Should be a very secure way to carry the pistol.
A leather or canvas holster would help to keep from getting dings and scratches tho.
Seems like someone told me that using a holster in Wisconsin was considered a concealed weapon. Sounds goofy to me and I could be wrong... You might want to make sure tho. Wouldn't be the first goofy law.

I was right, somebody DID tell me that. It was in this post, Post#190632 ,in response to an earlier topic I started, "Great Plains Pistol for deer hunting?".

I will check into the laws but you can carry a regular pistol (during reg. gun season) in a holster if the gun is not concealed. Meaning in your jacket or down your pants or anywhere else you may want to conceal it.

I would opt for a flap type holster or maybe a lock cover if you are using the belt hook. (I assume this is a back-up to your hunting rifle.) The reason I suggest this is that you will probably be walking through brush which can hang up on the hammer or maybe knocking off your cap. And I would not recommend a hammer down on a cap, as a thumbed hammer can set it off on your hip.
Plus it will keep your powder dry.
