I knew it would happen, GM ran out of barrels for the T/C rifles right as I can afford one.

I am trying to find a roundball twist barrel for a T/C Hawken or a Renegade.

Where do I look now?

I spoke with someone at Pecatonica River about that last week. He told me they're currently not making barrels while they build an addition to their shop and add new equipment. They're supposed to resume production sometime in January.

I have an unused ,in the box .50 cal GM TC round ball drop in barrel if You are interested. Older never on a gun. 15/16 for a hawken 32" long

I called Green Mountain a few weeks back and got the same thing...they're down while they put in a new production line. If I remember correctly, they're replacement barrells will be ready sometime middle of next year.

Tip would be your Guy..Call him.....
But listen closely..Southern charm
Always great to talk with!

flint or percussion?????

percusion

I have had a number of PM's and some good advice on this thread.

Thanks guys!

Now I am in serious thinking mode. Do I want this or that or maybe the other thing....?
Thats the problem with smoke poles, one is never good enough.

I think you should try a flintlock, I never have trusted that newfangled stuff  . Plus what happens when you run out of caps?, with a flintlock there's always some kind of flint around!.

I only have limited funds. Enough for a good drop in barrel for one of my percusion rifles.
Any flintlock I could buy for the price of a barrel wouldn't be worth it. I would fight with it and get poor performance and it would sour me on rocklocks.

Finding a supply of GM barrels isn't that hard if you read a bit and look around. I just ordered a GM 50 cal fast twist because the price was right and needed a new toy. Well may be NEED is the wrong word more like WANTED.

if ya can use a new-in-the-box percussion 54cal green mountain long range hunter(1 in 30 fast twist) 1 inch barrel to fit renegade or the 54cal hawken give me a holler.

GM has really pared down its line of ML barrels. I was looking for a blank in 15/16x36" .45 caliber and assumed such a common item would be easy to find, a popular caliber in a popular size. Wrong. In 15/16" size they list only .40, .50 & .54 calibers. The .45 caliber is available only in 13/16 & 7/8". .36 caliber not at all. They do have a lot of options in .40 and .50 caliber.

I just ordered a GM 15/16 drop in barrel for my TC hawken rifle in 50 caliber with a fast twist. I've got a bunch of bullets for free from a guy who use to rep for a muzzle loading company and thought it would be great to have a way to shoot them up. Best part is if I like them I can get more for free next year when he comes over to use my private rifle range prior to deer season. He can't use those bullets himself as he only has a 45 caliber and the bullets are 50 caliber.

Wife just laughed when she heard this. Her comment was: So you got free bullets and now you have to get a barrel to shoot them in! Ya that's about how it is. Even old farts need things to play with too.

Just tell your wife she better be glad she isn't married to me. A friend gave me ONE 6.5mm Japanese round years ago. Yep, you guessed it. I bought a rifle to shoot my one round in. It's gone on down the road since, but you can still tell her you're better than I am. At least you got a bunch of free bullets instead of just one... :rotf:

Oh I play that game too. :haha:
I picked up five cans of musket caps on Walmart's end of season close out so I had to buy a Zouave to shoot them. Funny thing is I got tired of the Zouave, sold it, and still have four cans of musket caps so I think I'll just get a couple of musket nipples for my hunting rifles. :haha:

Sevan is too quik on the uptake for me to pull that manuver.

My current plan is likely to work though. If I get a spare barrel for one of my rifles, then I have a perfect excuse to get a new stock for it on my birthday in Fenuary.
