Good evening to all. Was a caplock shooter for a number of years, sold that and in my opinion stepped up to a flinter.

Missed my first shot at a deer...hence my name...just sat there and laughed at myself as he gave me the flag on his way out.

Love the sport and the challenge.

Have a great evening

Glad to have you here. Former Toledo guy myself. Lots of good black powder clubs in your area.

Welcome aboard.

welcome to the mob! Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, we've all been there if we shoot flinters!

Welcome to the Forum. :hatsoff:

My first shot with a flintlock at a deer was also my first shot with a flintlock!! :shocked2: 1975. The delay from FLASH to BOOM was so long that I could literally have leaned the rifle against the tree I was kneeling beside and drew and fired my pistol before the rifle went off. I was expecting a delay, and kept holding my sight picture, while the deer, 90 yards away, was waving its ears wildly, and staring at me....Finally, I said: "What the ____?" and relaxed slightly. The rifle went off, but so had my sight picture, and the ball went under the deer and into the ground.

It was the first day of the first Flintlock Deer season in Pennsylvania, and I was using a borrowed rifle that had been used as a prop for a film. I was hooked! I soon bought a replica 1803 Harpers Ferry, which didn't work much better. It was over a quarter century before I got a decent flintlock, and my first muzzleloading deer. I also found this Forum, and learned a lot more about flintlocks.

Long story short - there's hope. :haha:

Have a good afternoon

Welcome to another Michigander.

Where are you located at?

I live in Flint but am originally from TC and have a hunting cabin in Grayling.
