I’m in my 50’s and have been shooting/hunting with black powder rifles since I was a teenager. I’ve recently gotten the itch to hunt with my grandfather’s TC Hawken. He passed in 1985 and I inherited it shortly afterwards. I’m in SW MO and our firearms season opens in a couple of weeks. I’m hoping to pick up some knowledge on here! Thanks for having me.

I’m going to try again. I think I might have messed up the last time. Looking forward to learning a little from you all. Thanks.

@ckwilli, welcome from the eastern, central side of the state.

Ask for a suggested load for the caliber of your rifle in the percussion rifle forum and get out there and practice a bit.
I’ve been shooting my hawken lately and seem to have a good load worked up. I was running low on #11 caps but just picked some up today. I’ll probably hunt during the November firearms portion with my hawken and not my unmentionable muzzleloader this year. I kind of excited. I have my son, who dabbles in leather work, making me a sling.
