Just one mans opinion. I am not a fan of "trophy" hunting, killing just to kill, to satisfy your ego.

"Trophy" hunting does not have to be "killing just to kill." Hunters seeking out older more mature animals are still consuming and using the animals just like other hunters. They are also going home empty handed much more often, so actually killing far less!

I see you donated your deer. Good for you. How is this different from a "trophy hunter" in Africa feeding a local village with the kills and taking home the memories?

I do not particularly like bows for hunting because they do not kill quickly, cleanly, because many hunters take shots they shouldn't take.

Have been a bowhunter for 50 years. I can attest to the massive and very quickly fatal killing power of broadhead tipped arrows.

The flaws in your mostly animal-rightist rhetoric is you blame a weapon choice, a hunting method choice, etc. and decide for others that they must do as you do, or did, or they are not worthy.

Bad shots are bad shots, regardless of the weapon. Can you show me your hard evidence vs your rumor and innuendo on wounding rates (as spread by PETA and HSUS) for various weapon types? That people shooting certain types of weapons are inherently more careful?

I may not personally choose a certain weapon or hunting style, but if it is legal and done with good ethics, then I'm not going to condemn the hunter who does it.

And I'll bet you can't show me one predator that is struggling. Thanks to emotional animal rights people , we are overrun with wolves, bears and lion.

It is only my choice and nothing against those who decide differently. My grandfather hunted Africa and his life long friend took an Elephant while they were there. People came from close to a hundred miles around, to butcher the Elephant. When they were done it looked like a skeleton that had been there for years! It fed many people for a long time. My Grandfathers friend took two of the feet and had stools made out of them and one Ear that was sandwiched between two pieces of glass making a table top (looked like slate) and of course the tusks, which you could still do then late 50's early 60's.

I do not argue with people who already have their mind made up. My experience is mine, yours may be different. I am not a fan of bows for hunting. It is what it is.

I started hunting with a '22 and shotgun as a child. I moved up to center fire rifles. The next step was M.L. and last a long bow. I prefered a long bow but also had a nice custom Brackenbury recurve. The recurve was a take down that I used when having to take a plane as it could be carried on board. I shot bows exclusively until father time decided that I stop. I only took a shot at an animal that I was as sure as I could be it would dispatch the animal humanely. I enjoyed each step in my way of hunting up to bow hunting . I did have to trail animals but I also had to trail some that I shot with a modern weapon. The only weapon I used that I never had to trail the animals were shot with my .54 cal M.L.!

Yes time is not always on our side. I find it much more difficult now to use traditional bows then when I was younger. I actually owned a Compound and sold it. I could hit well with it, but it just was too high tech for me. I love the traditional bow. I have an original Fred Bear Grizzly recurve, A Martin take Down Recurve and a PSE Longbow. Ther is just something neat about using the Longbow! I only ever used them for targets, not game.

When Brown Bear was still with us we had a similar thread. BB canvassed professional guides about the possibility of using an ml with prb for griz. The responses were universal....."no d..... way".

I don't know why the guide responded that way but I think it wasn't that the the PRB wouldn't take a Grizz but that you have no follow up shot if one was needed? I had a Marlin 45-70 lever action which I would have preferred to use.

If all I had and forced to engage, of course. On purpose? No. Not even w backup. How about a .62? I ain’t mad at no bears.
