I want to let everyone in the area know about an auction coming up Saturday August 25 near Liberty, IN.

This was in the paper for the first time just this morning which is kind of unusual for such a big auction.
Paul Ripberger was a friend for many, many years and he took the term "gun nut" to whole new levels. He liked nice guns.

I haven't clicked on all the pictures in the link but Rifles3 and Rifles4 show at least some of his muzzleloaders. Included is a nice Tingle he bought from me. If I wasn't broke from all the other stuff I've bought lately I'd try to get it back.
There is so much really nice modern stuff that it might be possible to get some good deals on the muzzleloaders. I'll probably go just out of curiosity to see what some of the stuff brings.
If you go and see an overweight dude with a mustache wearing a Woodcentral hat say howdy.

Wow- nice collection your friend had. I may try to take my wife to this just so she never again complains about my having too many guns!

Yeah, the Tingle rifle is the one he bought from me. Although it has almost certainly been shot, I never shot it while I had it.
I had to refinish the stock because the rain drops from a short shower destroyed the original finish.(It was on a trade blanket at the time) I don't know what Bob used but the fact that the finish was okay before that happened indicates it probably hadn't seen much use before I had it.

I just went over the bill of sale - your friend amassed quite a collection. There are three Tingles listed, 2 rifles and one pistol, and a bunch of other guns I would love to have. Wish I had the day free and pocket full of money to spend.

I went to the auction with a game plan.
If they started with all the high-dollar modern stuff first, I thought I might have a chance with one or two of the muzzleloaders. In particular, I wanted the Tingle half-stock I sold him in 1999 back.
Bless ’em, they did start with the modern stuff, and since there was SO much modern stuff, it was hours before they got to the muzzleloaders. By then the crowd had thinned out a lot and there were very few bidders interested in acquiring a traditional muzzleloader.
I got my Tingle back as well as what is described in a 1969 DGW catalog as the Hopkins and Allen Offhand Deluxe in .36. Both for less than just the Tingle cost me the first time I bought it.
The muzzleloaders sold from reasonable to downright cheap. One original in shooting condition sold for $75.
After the original list was printed up, more handguns were discovered and added in, including another Tingle single shot pistol. That made four Tingle guns in the auction. A long-barreled pistol, a standard length barrel pistol, a regular style half-stock rifle and a left-handed half stock rifle with a scope mounted on it. I think the left hand rifle was probably bought just for the scope.
To the end of my days I will always wonder how Paul got everything that was in that auction today to fit inside his house. The house and household stuff hasn’t been sold yet.
