Mods, this may not be the right forum for this, so please move it as you see fit.
I have been checking the usual vendors for padded, zippered gun cases long enough to accommodate long rifles and fowlers, with no success. Sure, there are simple canvas fabric cases to be had, but they offer little protection when transporting.
Was thinking about this as we are preparing to move back to southern Oregon next month. Last time, I wrapped them in blankets, which works but is not the neatest solution.

No luck here, so I've always made my own canvas sleeves. One seam and I'm done.

My solution is kind of a blend of yours. I put guns in the canvas sleeves, then wrap them into the folds of a blanket. Sorta neat anyway. :rotf:

Tip Curtis sells a soft case made with heavy upholstery type material. These have a flap that folds over the top and ties around the gun. Not what you ask for but just a suggestion. :hatsoff:

how long do you need?

I have 54 and 56 inch cases from Boyts. Best soft sided cases in the world. Not cheap, but nor are my guns.

Long enough for most of my rifles, but not all.

Unique Cases as Old Timer 48 says. I have looked at their cases in their booth and they are top quality. Nice folks too and I wouldn't be surprised if they could make you a custom case if they don't have what you need. Had other things on my mind at the Nationals or I would have grabbed one for my Shilo Sharps carbine, oh well I can pick one up at the Spring Nats.

Beretta market some very good 56 inch soft guncases . I can fit either my Mortimer or Whitworth inside with no problems . I also have a 55 inch Tactical soft case by Allen which is similar but has 3 large pockets .
Both have full length double zippers and are padded to protect the firearm .

I have moved several times in the last few years and have had the same concerns about the lack of thickly padded gun cases in the 60" - 65" length.

Note: Kibler's rifles with a 46" barrel must be at least 62" long and the Log Cabin cases are pretty thin for good protection.

I have a 64" Impact aluminum gun case that works great, but it is about 25 lbs. empty and it's expensive. For temporary moves, I have used Harbour Freight moving blankets 72"x80" ($5.99 with a super coupon). Roll the rifles up like a burrito and secure with duct/packing tape. Bulky, but absolutely no damage moving from Pennsylvania to Indiana in the back of my covered pickup truck bed.

Unique Cases --I have one of his cases and recommend them. Mine has a separate place to carry my range rod. very durable. I See him at most of the local gun shows.

Dixie Gun Works carries a real gem. They are plush cases up to 70" long with a tie back flap.

They appear very similar to ACE Case Co products which I've used for decades. Nylon or Cotton, they will protect your rifles better than those blankets. I've used mine for several moves and none of my rifles were damaged or dinged in any way.

For these old time guns, I prefer the cotton cases. You'll be surprised at how inexpensive they are, like I said, they are a real bargain.

Excellent cases. Fast shipping also.

Absolutely agree. Good value & prompt service. they make a musket case that easily holds a bess. I have 4 of their cases.

My wife is quilting one for me. A canvas liner and double batting. I am finger weaving the seam. This can be custom made to fit if you or your wife have the skills. We get the fabric from the scrap bins.

I recently got several white canvas sleeves from Track of the Wolf for my GPR, and a couple of shorter rifles. They have several sizes, including one for a longer pistol. The end flap folds over and has an attached tie.

As I recall, they were about $8-9 each

Is there any extra room in the 66"? I have a gun that measures a total of 66 3/8" and was wondering it it might barely be able to squeak in there. If so, I'd consider ordering one.

Not to hijack this thread on soft cases, but...

I'm moving to Alaska, so simple padded will not work for my two long rifles, where did you get a aluminum case?

Thanks for the info!
