Finally got to burn some powder and it felt great!
My "Short rifle" project is nearing completion. I test fired it this morn and was pleasantly surprised with all shots hitting at point of aim at 50 yards. I did find .18 pillow ticking for patches a @#%$ to load. Settled on 100gr FF, bore button, with .570 Hornady ball and .15 bear greased patch. Just need to hit the front sight with a file a stroke or two.
The North Star West .20 ga was a nice change from the rifles, love how easy smoothies load. I tried 80gr, 85gr, 90gr of FFF Swiss, lubed nitro wad, .18 bear greased pillow ticking and .595 ball. I was consistantly 4" right and 1" low of aiming point. All within 2" to 3" groups at 50 yards. Guess I have to work up the courage to do some barrel bending....oh boy.
I am pleased to report my friends left handed flinter I built for him, held together. Heres the first shot out of the gun and only the second time he's shot a flintlock. Also got him at the bench. The 38" Rice barrel put the first 5 shots off the bench into about an 1 1/2 group, at 5 o'clock at 25 yards. Not bad for a beginner and he's extremely happy, as I to see the rifle preform flawlessly.
