Has anyone tried Nylon or Rubber round ball?

Forget the "less lethal" thing.
1st, "less lethal" doesn't mean always not lethal. 2nd, in most places if you don't have the right to use lethal force in a situation,,, that does not mean you have the right to use something like rubber bullets.
If you are justified to shoot,,,, shoot for real,,, if not but you do with a rubber bullet, chances are you will be charged just like you shot with real ammo.

It's all good until they bounce back at 800fps
Yeah this was my first thought.

That said, there are environments where this isn't a risk.

I'm curious too,
For what intention would these projectiles be?
Target? Hunting?
I mean I learned real early too that ML's are kinda like a neat little mini cannon that can launch stuff,, I mean most of what your gonna stuff in there is gonna come out,, but to what end? What reason?
We did have one guy here that experimented with marbles, and then he moved on to brass bearings,,
,, but something that is "made" to bounce??
I would honestly hope nobody used them for anything but outdoor target shooting on a range, being that they can be cleaned up in that environment and won't really be bouncing back at you. I think the 'bounce quotient' would be variable as some are made of rubber and some are harder plastics.
The hard ones being much like BBs, I imagine they'd shatter or embed.

How small are these balls, shot size? Could this lead to shoot & release hunting?
Lol I hope that was a joke, I imagine it would severely injure the animal in many cases and lead to a cruel long death.
For size, they can be got in many diameters.

A box of 100 Hornady .490 balls is about $16, so 500 lead balls would be $80. Cheaper and already proven viable!
You assume someone can get Hornady where they live, or even that they come in the size that someone needs for their ML.
These come in many calibers and can be got off Amazon which means that if viable, it would be cheaper and easier to acquire for many.
Where I live for example, I can buy Hornady round ball but it doesn't come in the quantity you describe OR the caliber I need for my ML (0.68).

Any 'less lethal' loading that ive done used much lighter charges as well as the rubber or plastic projectiles. So I would definitely go with REALLY light loads. If they are meant for a paint ball gun or sling shot you could find out what velocity they are intended to be shot at. Be safe and take lots of pics and video.

There is a video on YouTube by guys that shoot strange loads. I think they try Grimburg nylon/copper mix balls ,68 caliber, out of a shotgun. These weigh 8 or 9 grams as I recall. I think that’s about 140 grains. I think they are very strong. Not sure what it could do to a barrel but I did see it tried in the video. There are straight nylon ones that weigh about 4 grams .

I'm definitely not interested in 'less-lethal' which just feels like marketing.

I just like 'easy and cheap to acquire'.

That sounds interesting, any link?

Years ago, there was a fellow who had a feud with his neighbor. He shot him with a 20 gauge shotgun loaded with a soap “slug”. Almost killed him..

Dont we all?
I would still load real light til you find out what happens. Just for punching paper, right?
Yes, absolutely only for paper. I may 'give it a shot' when I can get up north to a friends place where there's a lot of open space and no danger of anything ricocheting. I think if these are to work, that's really the only way to know they won't return to sender 😂

I hear that they shoot well with 4F powder. (chuckle) It depends on how the balls are made. If they are heated and compressed, their density might be uneven thus causing bad accuracy. Also the wind would cause an extreme accuracy loss due to their light weight. What an interesting day it would be to use them at an indoor range.

They still have to be considered deadly.

Patched marbles'd be my choice. "Cats; Eye" for shooting at night.

Rubber buckshot and 37 mm solid rubber cylinder loads are useful for crowd control. 12 ga. rubber also for chasing critters. Beanbag rounds are effective and pretty accurate, but deadly at close range (won't bounce back, either).

Stuffing stuff into guns other than lead ain't new but results vary widely. When hunting squirrels, a buddy launched his ramrod by mistake. Far as I know, it may still be circling the earth. Recoil bruised his shoulder, missed the squirrel.

They could be used to quelch any neighborhood uprisings with less than deadly force, provided nobody is sending the real stuff back at you...

Paint ball guns are "Nominally" 69 caliber. You can buy rubber bullets pretty cheep; and they are reusable. A worn or drilled out musket cap nipple will provide enough power to shoot them (patched with usual cloth) from my .69 caplock pistol. Not very accurate but good enough to shoot at an empty cardboard box. They bounce, don't shoot your eye out. "Just because it's a stupid idea, doesn't mean it isn't fun"

That takes all the fun and speculation out of this thread. Someone who actually tried something outside the box and reported back. Will probably take three or four posts to get back on track…….

Maybe like shooting paintballs? Imagine they would loose velocity very fast and only be a very short range option. Would definitely fall into a ‘less lethal’ category. Try and let us know.
I got some shotgun cartridges from the game warden to shoot at a nuisance bear we had around the house. They were rubber buckshot.o_O
