Thimble Farm

Found this one in a consignment store in Wayland MA, about 8 miles from Concord MA. I added the haft.
I have received feedback from some good individual sources and organizations that the hatchet is 18th century, British in origin and likely British issued based on the markings. Appears also to be a faded "2" on the collar.
I am looking for additional feedback on the two chisel marks on the poll. These appear similar to assembly marks found on musket parts, bayonets and halberds of the period. Odd place for these marks but they were not made by striking the poll against an object. These marks were chiseled in.
Similar hatchet was excavated at Crown Point, NY.
6 x 3.5
Thank you
