MJWayne, thanks for sharing the photo of the Moses White hawken. What a nice piece of art! Hey Mike, just a side question, do you plan on going to Dixon's?

You Betcha Gary!! We'll strike out at 5 AM for the 380 mi trip to Dixon's; after last year's first visit, it'd be hard not to go again. Perhaps an opportunity to hook up? PM me with details-. Yeah, the '80 Western Nat'l was a rendezvous with a lot of Firsts. Actually had a chance to see and meet Charlton Heston and his son, although couldn't stay for the premier of the 'Mountain Men' movie, as I had to be back in Colo Sprgs that evening. Seems it wouldn't have mattered anyways - an evening storm took down the movie screen erected in the meadow! As I recall, there were over 700 tipis set up in the valley and a lodge of working beaver adjacent to one of the shooting ranges that adults and kids enjoyed alot. Great sights, sounds and fooferaw! Shinin' times, indeed!

Take a look at Garavaglia and Worman's "Firearms of the American West 1803-1865".
When my two volume set was ruined by water damage, I replaced them (I think) from Dixie. Brand new books and less money than the used ones at Amazon and Alibris.
