I have a Investarms Hawkens .50 cal. The last time I was out shooting it would missfire every few shots. I cleaned the hammer and nipple while at the range with no help. The caps are kept dry and looked o.k.
Don't know where to go from here. Any help would be great. Thanks

I had the same thing happen to my Investarms Hawkin last year. Check your coil mainspring, they weaken with time and it may need to be replaced. I tried everything that others had suggested, changed nipples, cleaned out hammer, filed nipple (some thought it might not be hitting square, nothing helped. Replaced the coil spring with one from my TC Hawken and problem solved. SO I got a new coil spring. End of story, dropped an 8 point buck with during deer season.

Some rifles have sort of a cone at the breech and you need an appropriate shaped scraper to clean out the fouling. You might want to check that how.

If the cap is firing, but the rifle's not shooten, there'd be blockage or moisture some where between the cap and the powder. If you clean between shots, make sure you fire a few (3) caps off before you load, this'll dry up any moisture. I've made this a habbit with my T/C Renegade and she fires every time I pull the trigger.

I'm sorry. I forgot to say that the cap is not going off. It will after a few trys. Some on the first others on the 2nd or 3rd.

Scarecrow. Your nipple might be too blunt, file it sharper, point it up. Dilly

Do you have too much of a gap between your hammer and nipple? May have to bend hammer and close this up some .

The hammer hits the nipple flat when I drop the hammer. I'll try to file it some and see how that works.

make sure the cap bottoms out on the nipple. i think thats what the others are talking about filing on the nipple. if its too blunt it takes a couple of wacks to drive it down fully and set it off. just my opinion.....

After the problem started I would use my short starter to push down on the cap to make sure it was on all the way. It didn't help.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't.

I never thought of that. All I could find close to home was CCI #11. I'll look at the local shops for a different brand. Thanks

Just wondering does the same thing occurr when
you dry fire your caps?

As I states earlier, replace the coil spring. My Investarms went trough the same thing last year and I tried everything every one else has mentioned. Once I replaced the main spring all was well. A new coil spring is only a few dollars, if you are located near a BP shop they should have a spring as Lyman, TC and Investarms all use the same spring.

check with the log cabin gun shop in lodi or dixie gun works - should have parts.

What state is Lodi in?
Never mind I found it. We had a Lodi in Claifornia close to where I was at

OK, 50 rounds is not many, mine only the Great Spirit has a clue as to the number of rounds. Check the alignment of the hammer. Make sure you have good dry caps. I use CCI #11 magnums and have no problems. It still could be the spring, was it a new purchase? If so where did you buy it? I am sure that the spring would be under warrenty. I had the same thing happen to my TC Hawken and contacted TC and they sent me a new one.
