Hello All,

I recently picked up this smoothbore and searched all over the internet for information. All I found is it's similar to both a PA Fowler and Trade Gun.

It's 24 gauge, 36" Octagonal to round (no swamp) barrel, slightly over 1" OD at breech and 0.696" OD at muzzle.

Fit and finish are excellent, hold and shooting are great. I'd like to find info on the builder, where parts came from, if it's a replicate of a particular historical gun, etc. Some barrel and lock markings may help (Internet has yielded nothing).

Thanks for any info I may learn!
Regards
-Dave

Looks like a high quality build. Nice find! I like the iron furniture (my favorite).

The lock is an R.E. Davis - that's a keeper.

The barrel looks like Sitting Fox(?), but I don't know if they used the cartouche on the top barrel flat.

Maybe Matt Denison will hop in and say whether that is an early North Star West offering? But I don't think Curly G. ever offered that style.

But you can buy a similar stamp to do any barrel.

cant be one of curleys he had his own locks after the he stopped using lott lockes. also he had a star on the inside face plate of the lock.

It's not a North Star gun. Davis lock, as has been mentioned. Looks like a mix of parts. Nice fox stamp but I can't identify it. Could it be one offered by TOW for custom builders? Nice work, nice gun. Perhaps pull the barrel and see what is on the bottom flat.

Thanks for all the information. It is a nice gun no matter who built it. I almost passed on it too since I don't have a lot of experience with these things and wasn't exactly sure what to look for, but it was clear the workmanship was great, the gun feels so good and balances so well, and it turns out the barrel is almost a mirror finish. I lucked out this time!
