I have a black powder pistol that was my late husbands. He never used it, just kept in a case in the gun cabinet. I took it out and went to the pawn shop. The man pulled the hammer back and then the 2 triggers. It worked fine. He offered me money and I sai no. Later on a friend looked at it. I don't know what he did, but now the hammer won't go down. What is wrong, and how can I fix it?

You may have to post some pictures so we know what sort of pistol it is. If you can't do that, I'd take it to a reputable gunsmith in your area. You can usually find one on Google or in the yellow pages.

Sounds like one of two things or a combination of the two may be happening.

First, be sure that the hammer is fully cocked. Most muzzleloading guns have a half cock position on the hammer which keeps the hammer from falling accidentaly. If this is your problem you'll simply need to cock the hammer all the way back and the hold the hammer from falling freely as you pull the trigger allowing it to come to rest gently.

You mention that your gun has two triggers. It is possible that you need to set the trigger. This is done by pulling the rear trigger until an audible "click" is heard, then gently pull the front trigger while holding the hammer again it to keep it from slamming down.
