Well I'm putting together a Vincent and having a hard time finding any pictures or illustrations of the shape of the tang and how the rib terminates at the muzzle.I would sure appreciate any clues.
Thanks,Ron

Hi Ron,
I kind of hung back on this question hoping that I could learn from other builders. Since no one else answered, I'll give you what I know. I bought parts for a Vincent Ohio style rifle from Pecatonica in ILL. Mine is a .36 with a 30 inch barrel.

The tang is straight and square-ended 2 1/4" long and obviously the width of the top flat.

The underrib ends less than 1/8" from the muzzle. It has been rounded off bottom to top. They drilled and taped the screw holes for attaching the rib. This helped me to locate the rib without guesswork. Also they attached my ramrod pipes to the rib and breeched the barrel for me. These were additional cost, but without photos it helped me with correct placement of numerous items.

Track of the Wolf and Pecatonica both have nice side views but no other angles. I hope this will help. I'll still watch for answers from someone who completed a Vincent.

Perch,
I've built (4) Vincents to date. (3) were from the old Golden Age Arms Co. Jim Johnston was the original owner. His kits were taken from an original in his own collection.
With his kits, he sends a small booklet with multiple pictures of the original gun.
The Ohio guns were mostly percussion, pointed tang, double finger grips on the trigger guard. Mounted in brass with German silver inlays on the cheek, and on the forearm barrel pins. The barrel pin inlays were a double scroll type attributed to Vincent rifles only. The cheek inlay a 4 pinted star with a square in the middle.
As far as the under rib, at the end of the forestock is a poured pewter nose cap that wraps around the under rib, which is screwed to or soldered to the barrel and terminates at the muzzle with a tapered or rounded off end almost flush with the muzzle.

I'm not sure if any of these books are available as Golden Age is out of business, but would be great to have if you could find one.

Hope this helps.... good luck

Thanks for the replies. Not to be a pest but but about what radius might that roundover be? As always thanks

This rifle is great for offhand shooting. This rifle weighs in at about 6 lbs, I took lots of wood off the lock pannel and the opposite side to reduce the overall thickness. Actually took off all of the pannels and remade them afterward.

Thanks Rabbit, that helps alot.Very nice gun.Hope mine turns out half as nice. Ron

I suggest you go the Track's website. Buy the subscription to their archives. It shows the descriptions of all the guns they have sold through their website. There are thousands of them. You can search for Ohio guns. There are almost 100 returns when you search for "Ohio".

I suggest ya buy a set of Plans........ TOW has them & MBS. Then you have all the sectional cuts to give exact measurements & etc., instead of guessing at them. :hmm:
