I like it lock, stock and barrel. However, I can't really get the feel of the arm by pictures alone. Might better send it to me so I may give a good once over. It usually takes several years for me to finish, but it would be worth your wait...I promise. :rotf:

Hi Mike,
You did very well but let offer a suggestion. You are right that the lock panels are too wide. Because they are too wide the wrist becomes somewhat slab sided. The fix is to try and visualize the forestock extending through the lock area to the wrist as if it were an oval-shaped cylinder and that the lock panels were created by the sides of the cylinder being stretched outward and filed flat. The stretching creates the nice concave mouldings that frame the lock panels. The flat area around the lock should be no more than 3/16" wide (better 1/8") with extra in the front and back depending on the design or flavor. That area is critical and almost everything else flows from and depends on it.

Like I said before, I have a bad habit of concentrating on just one aspect of the rifle at a time. The wrist is actually oval, and I did try to visualize what you are talking about, but I haven't learned how to tie it all together. I had not heard it put the way you did, and I will file this away for the next longrifle.
Thanks for your time and effort.

Darn fine looking rifle! can't see anything wrong with it. Hope it shoots as good as it looks.

That rifle looks great!
But that chair it's sitting in is kind of hard on the eyes.
:shocked2:

Mike,
I think you did a great job. I love it. I am currently working on my third but I don't see mine turning out as good. Maybe my 4th will be the one. On this one I am trying some things that I didn't do on my 1st and 2nd ones that were built 20 years ago. Maybe it would help if I didn't wait so long between builds.
You did a good job on the lines and carvings. Looking forward to seeing your 4th.

I don't take responsibility for that, we had some real nice western-looking leather stuff with brass tacks, and the next thing I knew, the wife had sold it, and the new furniture was on the way. :(
Oh, well, she earns the money, so she can do whatever she wants.
Thank you everyone for the positive comments, I don't think the rifle deserves that much, but it feels good anyway. THe next one will be better.
