I have read that rifles had been made with unique barrel shapes such as this. This is the first example I have seen. Thanks for posting!

On second look, it's pretty apparent that is the shape of the bore, and the whole barrel is twisted to as to produce de facto rifling.

Beautiful gun! Do you have any photos of the projectile? That butt plate would be a mega nightmare to inlet!
