Last year I bought this TC Renegade cheap from a local gun store. When I got it home I found out why. Nipple was seized tight, bore was rusty and chamber was rusted completely closed. Outside of barrel was rough and had scope mounted on it at some point. Stock, lock and trigger were good though. I put the barrel away and stuck an old Hawken barrel on this Renegade stock and called it the ‘Rawken’.

Then I needed the Hawken barrel for a Hawken stock so I decided to see if I could salvage the Renegade barrel. After two broken nipple wrenches, penetrating oil, heat, scotch brite pads and some elbow grease, I was able to remove the rust and install a new nipple and an old CVA rear sight. I made a new ramrod but it has brass thimbles for now.

I tried 50, 55 and 60 grains of 3f but the groups kept getting bigger. Dropped down to 40 grains and Wa La, success! I need more practice with this gun but so far I’m happy.

Looks like a winner! I load 45 grs. 3F, .490 ball and .018 patch for the kids and to bust bunnies. A slow hit trumps a fast miss any day!

40 grains…hmm. I bet it sounds like a squirrel fart when it goes off. 😆 Good job getting it shooting it again. I’m a big fan of resurrecting neglected stuff.

There’s hardly any recoil that’s for sure. The Renegade stock is very comfortable and helps make this gun a pleasure to shoot. You know where this gun came from😉
