Does anyone know who might make a long rifle with a full stock with a hooked breech plug. Or do all long rifles have the barrels pinned in place?

Thanks!

Track of the Wolf has a full stock Hawken kit that is keyed and hooked. They also have a Tennessee rifle that is keyed but doesn't have a hooked breech.

My first LR built in 1978 has 4 keys but has a screwed down tang {one screw}. Have always removed the bbl for cleaning and have had no problems w/ the tang screw which goes into the trigger plate. All of my 3 hunting MLers have keys...2 w/ hooked breeches and the LR above.....Fred

Hi Mike,
There are some original long rifles that have hook and tang breeches (also called "standing breeches"). Several famous Bucks County makers used them as well as J P. Beck. The vast majority of long rifles did not have standing breeches. It makes no sense to have a standing breech without also using easily removeable flat barrel keys instead of pins. However, there are many longrifles that have flat barrel keys but do not have standing breeches.

Thanks for your responses. I'll check the "Track". They seem a bit pricy but if I can't convince myself to either go half stock or get use to a pinned barrel I may have to spend the money.

I sure like the looks of Pedersoli's Frontier flintlock. Was just hoping to find something similar with a hook (standing) breech plug with the flat barrel keys (wedges).

Anyways...thanks again guys.

I don't think I said a pinned barrel was a problem to clean. However, my T/C barrel has a hooked breech and is cleaned using a bucket of water. Could it be cleaned any other way? Sure it could, but why would I do it any other way?

I was just curious about full stock. (flinters)

I bought a hooked breech Hawken .54 flint lock from Track of the Wolf about God almost 30 years ago. Still shoot it. It's a real easy kit to put together.
