HI all New member here!! I just got a dozen horns from a farmer who just dehorned a few bulls. My question is how do you remove the inside and come out with just the horn? Any help here would be greatly appreciated!! Love the site! GRIZ

If it were me, and it was once upon a time (had 20 sets of horns)
I placed them in a chicken wire bag and tied it onto a fence for the summer. the hornets and ants had a field day cleaning those thins out, the sun dried out the cores and by first freeze, I had 20 sets of clean horn caps!

Nature at its best!

I agree with Brett, Sr.'s advice. If you can stick these things out away from houses, and working buildings, so you don't offend people with the odor, let the birds and bugs do the work for you.

Otherwise, you have to boil them, and its a very stinky process, no matter what you do. You can put bleach in the water to help kill some of the smells, but its still a stinky job to loosen those cores enough to pull them out. One man here told of useing large lag bolts screwed into the cores, to pull them out of the horns. Sounded like a good idea to me.

I boiled mine over a BBQ grill on a good windy day, so that the stench was swept off as fast as possible from the neighborhood. However, If you were outside, you could smell it!

Go far, far away from friends and family, then boil the dickens out of the horns. It might take half an hour or forty-five minutes. Then use something to grab the horn by the tip because it is going to be hot! Then just give the thing a good sharp rap on the large end, on a board or hard ground. If the horn is done, the core will just slip out. Vick's vapo-rub dabbed in your nostrils and a good stinky cigar will get you through the difficult part.

:stir: I will try the boil thing which i thought i had to do. You guys give great advice non the less!! TY
