I finished assembling this horn today. I decided to give it a high gloss finish and scrim over the top. After hours of scraping, sanding, buffing and polishing, there's not a finish mark on it! My FIL likes brass accessories, so I added the acorn fill on the base end and brass nails securing the base and spout tips. Not bad, but not too authentic. It's fourteen inches around the curve, including the spout tip. Since it'll be his birthday present, it shouldn't be a problem. I sealed both the base and the spout tip with beeswax before securing them. Now I have to determine what the scrim's going to be. Thanks for looking.

I decided to go with a plain dark leather strap to try to match the walnut pieces.

Great job. I like the natural colors in the horn. You do some quality work there. This is definately not your first horn!!

i think the deer would stand in line just to be shot by powder from such a fine horn.  beautiful love the lathe work spout.

Thanks for the kind words folks. I've enjoyed this forum and have gotten alot of good ideas from all the helpful people that frequent it. You all make it worthwhile. Keep up the good work and thanks again.

Nice horn. How did you fit the turned spout to the horn body? It looks good.

I recessed the bottom of the spout about an inch and then rounded the horn to fit inside to the proper depth. I want to start doing scrw tip horns, so this was a start to get used to getting the sizes to match up before actually doing threads.
