When I started this ml avocation I carried all my 'stuff' to the range in a small tackle box. With time that box was replaced with larger and larger. Finally, about 30 years ago, I bought this box from a friend and have been carrying it since. It is 18"wideX10"deepX13"high. I used to have, almost literally, tons of 'stuff' in it. I was the 'go to' guy on the range to help with repairs and problems. I had quite a few tools in it, including a vise. Usually, I carried a couple hundred lead round balls for three or four calibers, plus three to five pounds of powder, stapler and a dizzying array of other 'stuff' for a day at the range. About a year ago I just had to lighten it. Age and bad shoulders dictated I couldn't carry this very-very heavy box anymore. I took out many of the tools, the vise, carry only the balls I will need for that day and only one or two pounds of powder. It is still heavy but within reason. Sort of. I guess.

7x12-9 tall, one top tray w/dividers.
Plenty big enough. Like your self I got tired of the big box. A few extra tools are left back at camp so I can do some, "let's gitt'er shootin" work if mine or someone elses breaks down.

First of all, I like your box. It's got character! My box is about the size of a large tackle box. I hate it. It's disorganized and filled with stuff I might need but rarely use. I guess that's why I shoot from the bag. I always take the box in case I need something in it, but I rarely open it up.

Very nice! What is it, cedar?

I have a tool box that is somewhat disorganized too. The painting on your box adds to the appeal.

I made a conscious decision not to get / use a 'range box' that looked basically the same as many other folks wooden range boxes.
Instead I opted for simple modern availability and practicality, chose these based on already having used the same models for trap & skeet shooting, and for bow hunting.

I set these two up like identical twins...the only difference being the calibers each one supports...one for .40/.45/.50cals, the other for .54/.58/.62cals.

MTM Case-Gard Stock Photo...oddly, the dimensions weren't listed and I didn't go measure mine, but they're very spacious.

My range box is an 1989 Jeep CJ. Got stuff in there that I've never used but there is always somebody at the range needing something I got. In the past it's saved a lot of guys (including me) from cutting their range time short because they forgot something at home or broke something. When I set up, it looks something like a yard sale. So if the wiggle pin on your wobble shaft breaks, I probably have one for ya somewhere.

Mine is a nice plastic Craftsman tackle box 19"x9"x8.5". I bought it at the Salvation Army thrift store for $3 or $4 bucks and it was like new. In addition I also use a nylon satchel for carrying the bulky items. I'm something of a pack rat. It would be a challenge trying to name something NOT inside either of them. When I go to the range I take both.

6-1/2" tall, 7-1/2" wide and about 2" thick. Made of moose hide. :haha:

Only thing extra I carry to the "range" vs. hunting is a pair of Sonic Valve II Ear pluges and a few extra balls in the bag .

I have three boxes. All of em bigger than yours. They are a study in disorganization and dysfunction. Gotta take all three to the range cause I never know what is where. Nice thing is, no matter what is needed it can usually be found in there.

I just use a 7.62 NATO ammo box. I've never really needed that much stuff on the range & with a folded towel on top, it's the perfect height to use as a rest on the benches.

I use the big Plano tackle box, and put everything in there I think I'll ever need. Helped a fellow out more than once with a spare this or that. I still bring the box, even when shooting out-of-the-pouch. Only have to carry what I'll really use then  .

Three? And bigger than mine? :shocked2:
If mine was any bigger, or heavier, I would have to install wheels and a V-8 engine.

I'm with Stumpkiller, if it won't go in your pouch, you don't need it.
I do like Mike 56s box though, very clever.

That is pretty slick. I fly R/C airplanes and there are a few flight boxes the guys bring to the field that are functionally brilliant - like his design. Some of those have extendable legs so they don't need a table or have to bend over.

I drive to where I fly, but I walk out the cellar door and down the back hill to where I shoot. Kind of limits what I choose to tote along but is great for practical practice. ;-) Always grabbibg the same shooting bag means never having to say "I forgot my . . . ".

Very nice range box! I have 2 (besides my shooting pouch) but this one is the one I usually carry:

It is 16" long, 11" high and 9-1/2" deep. I want to make at least one lift-out tray to fit inside it; that will make it a bit easier to sort out the smaller things. The little drawer holds jags and accouterments, tools, ear plugs, powder funnels, powder can spouts, etc. The other box is about 14" by 10" by 8" and has a drop down front. There are vertical compartments behind the front, and a tray about 3" deep on top.
