I want to get a smoothbore flinter, but I don't know which one to get. My primary use will be for hunting & I prefer something that would have been used around the mid 1700's. Any suggestions?

What are you hunting, things that fly or things that walk?
Hey, I was in Binghampton a few weeks ago, how come you didn't say hi? :v

My first use would probably be for turkeys, but I would like to use it for any game(small or big).

You should have let some of us in the area know you were going to be in the around. There are several forum members from within 30 miles of here. If nothing else we might have at least been able to meet & have a cup of coffee.

Given your guide lines, my first inclination would be something along the lines of a North West trade gun in .62 cal.

OK, kit or finished gun? I'd go with a 10,11 or 12 bore.

At this point in time I'm going to have to say that it will have to be either finished or "in the white" needing only wood finishing & browning at most. I don't have a lot of time for a complete build.

I'd go with the chambers colonial fowler in what ever guage you like. I know they have barrels for it in stock at this moment. Ask Jim for his list of people who asssemble them in the white.

Here's some pics of what they look like when they're done.

Does Tip have a web site yet? I have an early Pennsylvania .54 that I bought from Tip last year at Dixon's fair & I'm very pleased with it, but I'd like to see something before I buy it & the last I knew he didn't do anything on computers.

I've been very impressed by both the accuracy and build of the NSW flintlock I bought last year.

NSW flintlock? What's that?

North Star West

Is that the same "Officer Musket" that Dixie Gun Works offers in .67cal.? I'd like to also get a smooth bore but really don't want to wait 12-16 months or pay $1000 plus for an import. What are some of the less expensive alteratives. Is the Trade Muskets any good, what about the less expensive Bess copies? I'd like something to Turkey, Dove and Rabbit hunt with.
