Like the Hussar Cavalry Carbine Model 1786 and others. The ramrod stops far short of the barrel.
Is it sliding through the lock and trigger mechanism?

I know some shotguns had ramrods of spring steel or whale bone , the ramrod channel was somehow drilled all the way to the buttplate. These were half stocked guns , of course.

Hi,
The ramrod goes all the way through the stock and the hole is stopped by the butt plate. I believe the rod passes above the sear bar and trigger plate. The hole may be angled slightly to the side opposite of the lock but I am not sure. It was designed so almost no ramrod sticks out under the exposed barrel to get caught on stuff.

Do you think the ramrod hole is drilled from both ends to meet ? I would think that would be very hard to do.
