I use Moose Snot to clean and Barricade for storage. I take the lock off, and position the gun upside down so the Moose Snot can run out the vent and not soak the wood. I run soaked patches down until they come clean, then a few more to dry and finish with Barricade. Check it again in the morning just because I'm anal.
Yep - For the past 30 years, all I do, @ the end of a day when I shot, was to run Moose Milk (T/C #13 bore cleaner) downbore from the muzzle until it leaks through the nipple or vent, followed by a bore scrubbing with 3-4 tight patches soaked in the Moose Milk - then as many dry patches as it takes to dry the bore.
Rocklock vents & Percussion nipple drums get the same treatment, but with pipe cleaners. (percussion nipple threads get buttered)
(Percusion nipples get a hot water flush & a quick pick to ensure they're clear).
The last thing I do before putting the gun up until the next time I shoot it (maybe a year, maximim) is to run a loose patch loaded with Ox-Yoke Bore Butter downbore.
Hammers, lockplates & the rear 3" of barrel also get Moose Miked, dried & buttered.
None of my frontstuffers, so treated over those 30 years, have ever showed a trace of rust in the bores, vents, percussion drums,and/or hammer/lock.
