I would like to see someone be able to shoot into the air and have it come back down on the shooting shed. I don't think it could be done.

Hatcher was using a 30 cal Browning and firing a full belt at a time. He had a dickens of a time to get the bullets to land withing ear or eye shot. Had to use a weather balloon to see where the high aloft winds were moving. They often blew from a quadrant different from the low breezes. It was the wind at the highest elevation that would effect the bullet the most as the bullet spent most of it's time slowing to 0 fps then speeding up again as it fell back to earth.
A bullet that dents a pine board is not one to fool with especially if it hit someone point on. In the Sandbox the locals often shoot their guns up in the air for celebration. More than a few locals get killed or wounded by dropping bullets. Of course lately there isn't much to celebrate....

it's like the stumpkiller said, the bullet still has an awful lot of forward oomph even as it's coming down.
myself?? do believe a 130-180gr ball at a 45 angle has enuff energy left to kill some one..
the only time a hazlenut would have as much energy would be if the ball was shot, then as it got to an elevation of 15 feet it suddenly stopped then fell straight down. don't think that could happen. :wink: :grin:
