If the fit is tight enough they will be peened in like a rivet and unlikely to come out.
If want you could also go a little under size and solder them in.

I am asking the same question. This is just cosmetic, or is it meant to replicate the appearance of some other process from the 18th century?

I find the look appealing, but isn't even a slight mis-alignment obvious?

No to pouring brass in. Drill holes, undercut (easily done with small burr) peen in rod.

Look fellas, it is an interpretation of what someone wanted to do. for the most part they are happy with it it looks ok. let them produce what they did. I did some barrel bands for a Queen Anne and they came out ok. Just wanted to see if I could pour brass and pewter. it came out the way I wanted but like many of you suggested it just does not fit for that particular application. I tried had fun and learned new things by doing it. Do you really think that THE GREATS did not have a bucket of discarded Ideas as an after thought.? Lets not be so hard on each other.

To me it's the same as fancy carving and inlays, unnecessary to enhance the function of the firearm, adds more work, and game taken with the gun won't know the difference.

I've seen similar things on high end original european guns from 17-18th century
