Trying to find if there's a difference between a hare or cottontail..

There are hare where I'm hunting I've seen them.

I think it's a hare for some reason..

The cotton trail I got that one boogied it's way around and around. It was 50 yards or so in front of the dog

This thing.. like last weekend.. she made a few good loops.. when I saw this thing fly by whatever that was.. the dog followed a while after. so it was rabbit.. but wow it was twice as far in front of the dog.. far in front.

She's had other chases.. not bad but only so long so far.. so I don't know she's loosen the scent.. I'm thinking she's learning hare if there's a difference.

Got one!

it's me Lmao. In the situation.

It just goes better if. I hide right away and watch good. Just stay putt.

I think if you move around to much. Change spots. that rabbits just.. it's a little smart...

I had some fun...

Now I'm trying to figure out how many are there.. trying to save one rabbit now lol..

I found 4 total in this place.. shot 3 of them.

I'm going to save the one on top.. so that I have one that the dog will just chase around and train on..

Should I find a new place with new rabbit.. I do have 3 maybe places to try on mind.

Should I go to that same place and skip that rabbit look for more.. then I can always just let her find and run the one on top for fun.

There not going to re-stock these places with rabbit. I'm not a bad shot.

That's just what I'm thinking because I had my fun.

Run the dog on as many rabbits as you can ad leave some for seed if you have exclusive running permission you should not kill many and make it hard to find a rabbit

It's public land. But. Its mine kinda.

People don't hunt there much. It's not easy. They come and go.

The only other person who knows where to go there is the old lady that lives right there.

She's strange to new places.. I tried a new place this morning. She did OK but she didn't work like work..

Then..

Went back to our spot she knows.

let her off the leash and she took off right in and went to work. started chasing a rabbit 5 mins into it.. she chased 2 new rabbit there this afternoon. I took one.

That's the picture. I've been wanting a picture with Me the dog and rabbit you know.

My daughter came with me. She took the picture this time.

Another awesome hunt..
We found two new rabbits there.

My friend who's 75.. he shot the rabbit!!
So that is another hunting goal completed

The only thing now..
I have 2 rabbit frozen. Trying for 2 more now and then I'll make trip to see my aunt and give 4 rabbits to her.

I always ran shocking collars on my beagles years ago. You never want to abuse that but it was very nice if they’d try running a deer so I could get them off it quickly … and eventually they learn to not run them then. Also beagles can just be hard headed about loading up sometimes if they have the drive to hunt so a light zap would sometimes help with getting them rounded up as well. Like I say, you want to be smart about using the collars though. I sure do miss listening to the dogs when on a rabbit! Fun times!!

A little about the dog..

She was a started dog. Kennel dog. Not spoiled at all you could tell.

Spent the summer bonding with her. leash walking. Car rides. House training. I didn't run her till the fall.

She is now bonded to me it's my dog you can tell.. it took 3 months I'd say.

If I call and whistle. She comes.

I have the dogtra gps everything collar.. took the prongs out.
To be honest I don't need the GPS collar it but I like the gps is awesome.
