curious to see how much response this gets. I have a S/S adjustable sight.the 3rd. BP gun I bought. before any long guns BTW just wish I had more time to shoot it!

I have one I picked up second hand for $100 about 20 years ago. I have not shot it much. The few times that I have gave no complaints on function and accuracy.

I HAD a first model/early ROA 26 years ago, traded it straight up for a colt .22. one of my not so bright moments looking back!
the ROA shot great and was a lot of fun.

I have two of the SS versions. I bought them last year when I had an opportunity to buy them at what I considered to be a very good price.

Did you know that you can safely deepen the cylinders enough to add another 5 to 7 gr capacity?

Let me know if that interests you and I can get some info to you.

These are great revolvers and built just as you would expect a Ruger to be.

Although, I just bought a Colt Whitneyville Dragoon so I am totally preoccupied with it for the time being!

I have an early one I purchased new in about '75 for $115 and have managed to hang onto it. Have not fired it in a couple of years, though.

I have owned a few over the years. First one had a brass grip and S/N 357. I still have a SS that I took in on trade a while back, wish I had time to take it to the range.

My question is "Why would anyone want a ROA?"
IT is Not a copy or Repro of Any old time pistol......so why would some :hmm: one want one?

My favoret pistol

Because they shoot like a house on fire,Because
like all Rugers they are hell for stout,Try one
you will like it.

I also had a ruger 22 & 357,,,didn't like them either and swaped them off,,,sorry,,,rugers are fine revolvers if you like them,,just don't get the right fit in my hand and don't like the weak feel of cocking the hammer,,,THATS WHY WE HAVE A VARIETY OF BRANDS,,, :surrender: :surrender: :surrender: to each his own,,,

I has a S/S back in 93. I traded it
for a Colt signature series Walker. I
recently sold the Walker. I never fired
it hoping it would go up in price. I
was disappointed, I lost money on that one.
I saw a 51 navy colt signature going for
750 at a gun show. I couldn't see paying
that much for a pistol that would plunge in
price once shot.

you are correct the ROA is not an exact copy of an original, it's Bill Ruger's idea of an improved '58 Rem. I bought it after shooting several Pietta's and Uberti's and buying a brass framed 'Buffalo' '58. since then I've bought and sold/traded several other BP revolvers, but my Ruger, no way will I part w/it. hell for stout and accurate/smooth.

Because it is simply the finest bp percussion revolver made by anyone at any price. 'Nuff said.

Just my opinion, of course, but you asked me why would I, so I told you.

I knew I could git some feathers Ruffled when I asked why would anyone want a Ruger Old Army :rotf:
I like them too!
But when ya mention STOUT...I think about BEER!

I don't think I came across as "ruffled". At least, I didn't mean to.

Actually, I think I misunderstood your question; you asked

Perhaps a better way to ask it would have been to say, "Why wouldn't some :hmm: one want TWO?"

:hatsoff:
