How many shots from a flint?

The German "milled" flints do very well (leave it to the Germans to be unhappy with the irregular shape of a knapped flint). The Arkansas cut flints I have seen are a different grade of stone. Chert perhaps? They work, but not as well as a good flint IMHO. They also vary in color a lot and it likely depends on the stone itself how well they spark.

The Arkansas 'flints' are made from Novoculite, the same stones as are used for our famous whetstones. Color variations indicate fineness of the grade. Black is the finest. And it does, indeed, put a fine edge on blades.

I hadn't checked Gunter's website for a while. Clicking on the 'shop' tab will bring up a picture of him standing next to one, really honkin' big gun. :shocked2:

I can't seem to find his flints on TOW site and my computer shuts down his web site as a 'protection' to my computor from "bad stuff"?

I think it depends on the lock. I bought some from Dixie a few years back as a test. Would not work in two rifles but worked very well in a pistol I had. :cursing:
