I am curious how many years of combined experience we have in this group. To make things easier on me to keep a tally, when telling me your time reply like this...

12 years

...and only have the years in the comment with nothing else. Any other discussions are welcome, but anything other than this format will not be counted. I will occasionally post a running total.

I am also doing the same in the Re-enactment section.
About 60 yrs

61 years, beginning with a Numrich Hopkins and Allen 'boot pistol', which came through the mail with a bullet mold, 1/4 pound of 2Fg, and a tin of French caps - I still have the pistol and most of the original can of caps, which absolutely will not split (at least on a pistol), and had to be scraped-off the nipple after each shot.

mhb - MIke

50 or so years, when they opened the Alabama Mgt areas for either sex M/L hunting in the early 70s we all ran out and bought a muzzle loader. We didn't know squat about them at the time, just stuff something down them, shoot them and clean them, no load work up.

I was still in the same beginner mode until about 15 years ago when a friend gave me a fine flintlock rifle. This rifle sparked my interest in all things black powder and started me wanting to build one.

I entered 35 years as my answer. I actually assembled a Dixie Tennessee Mountain Rifle 44 years ago. I had no clue what I was doing and no one to ask. I'd shoot it - then clean, clean, clean -check the next day and find rust.... So when I finally got it to stop rusting I hung it on the wall. Some time later I met some fine folks that educated me in how to manage a muzzleloader. Been shooting them ever since. Been shooting them exclusively for the past 5 years or so.

58 years
I rescued a derelict barrel-less 1873 Springfield trapdoor cavalry carbine from a deceased neighbor's attic, mated it to a Numerich Instant Muzzleloader kit, and was off to the races (err, SHOOTS)! Its rifle length barrel on a carbine stock makes it something of an ugly stick, but it shoots at least as accurately as I can, and it still shows its army unit markings stamped into its stock.
