I was at one time a N.J. resident, I did most of my hunting in Stokes State Forrest and it was a two hour drive from my home. It was a beautiful forrest at that time, the last time I saw it was 1987. Since then I have lived in the Mojave desert of Southern California. I can hunt cotton tale rabbits right in my yard, if I choose to hunt upland birds or even deer, it is a 20 minute drive. I can hunt all the Jack rabbits I want year round in a twenty minute walk. The polit bureroe of Sacramento is thinking of making wild hogs the same as Jack rabbits. If they do, I would have to drive about an hour to hunt them.
Stokes is a beautiful forest, been to it several times,

As a child in the 50's the family had a little place on the Great Bay in New Jersey. Spent a great part of summers there. Between fishing, crabbing, scavenging mussels and clams you almost didn't need to go buy food. Most of what we ate came over our little dock.

Summers, when we were not there, we were at grandmother's farm in SW Virginia mountains. The nuns thought I was a little savage when we got back to school in September. Likely, they were right.

I got a place in NH 45 minutes north of college town Keene. Purchased in 2018 before the world went nuts. So timing was good. House is set back centered on 12 acres with 3.5 acres cleared. Very small town no amenities. Resupply i Keene or a little further north. Able to shoot on property but I try to limit it. If my neighbors are shooting I join in I don’t want to be singled out for making noise. Lots of game deer fox turkeys coyotes porcupines skunk occasional bear. 😂 Unfortunately I never got into hunting but have had a license for several years. I would like to. The people I purchased from told me one neighbor hunted on the property I assume bow. he hunts his own property as well. Interestingly to me this was the first year I purchased a license in the state. Not sure if it’s because I’m considered out of state I have not yet changed to my primary residence but you can only take one deer a year. Anyway I have to read up on the regs I have the rule book. No big deal as I mentioned I don’t hunt. Basically buy the license to support hunting in the state. Anyway I love it and love not waking every day to the sound of blowers mowers and weed wackers. Chainsaws I like.

France be careful. Man shoots lady crossing field. Jus missed her heart by an inch but sh died in hospital. Italians as much I like them they are mad. Zzzzzzzzxxzzx a slug went between us, the Italian. Sorry I thought it was a shot cartridge. Never hunted p with them again French just as bad. When I was growing up in the CA coastal range in the 60/70s on the sheep ranch , they were called "feral pigs" which is what they are and you could hunt them like jack rabbits, spot lighting and all....then the F&G got greedy, started selling tickets, then tags, then started treating them like big game...IDIOTS Now it has come full circle.

Used to kill, trap and hunt them as a afternoon sport then. Lots of fun, but boy do they know how to ruin fun in KA

Kia Ora ( Hello)
Pukatea bay is our home.
I have a bit of room for my Muzzleloader intrest.
I wouldn't like to live elsewhere really.
Fair fishing & shooting out here.
We are Very fortunate to have a roof over our heads.
Nothing comes easy & if it does it's not the same.
I work 198 miles away & spend 4 days at mahi ( work) & then 4 days at Pukatea....always tough to leave & a thrill to come home (kainga) & most of all my Whanau ( family)❤
Where ever you all live may you have peace and be blessed there.
Nga mihi ( good wishes)
Chris

North West Connecticut: I don't know how, but so far this part of the state has escaped the sprawl. I own a small house on 33 acres: 10 for hay about 5 that I rotate small my chicken flock on, and the rest is pine woods and overgrown pastures with a cedar swamp somewhere in the middle. I see deer, bear, eagles, hawks, foxes, coyotes, bobcats, raccoons, possum, etc. Even saw a moose once. Also I got a close look one time at a mountain lion (turned out to be an Eastern Catamount). I hunt deer on my own property or my neighbors, and lately on 600 acre hay field that is a couple of miles down the road. This photo is from around last June.

A most refreshing thing about this thread, is when FLASHPOINT says; happy you have what you have.To be happy for someone else is all together too rare now days.My hat is off to you FLASHPOINT ,With all the Jealousy and Cut throat B.S. in this world, YOU are a breath of Fresh Air.........Be Safe>>>>>>>>Wally

Black bears, elk, deer, bobcats, mountain lion, rabbits, fox, porcupine, all roam our property. Nearest neighbor 1/4 mile. Wilderness, ponderosa pines, pinion, firs cover the property and tens of thousands of acres + around this area. Elevation 7350. However, I'm noticing more folks starting to move in closer to this area....may be time to move!!
