My Patriot pistol has two triggers ,one for setting (front) and the rear for firing, once set the rear is very sensitive and on occassions has frightened the bejabbers out of me,the slightest touch and she is away. Now I have adjusted rems and colts and have always had a good result.
BUT, before I take the lock apart could someone out there give me any ideas of the schematics of a two trigger set lock and the method of removing the lock from the woodwork, etc.
I would appreciate your help as I cannot find even on google any reasonable Info.regards to all HOTELBRAVO

On all of TC's other double trigger mechanisms, there is a small adjusting screw hanging down from the trigger frame between the two triggers...I assume the Patriot might be same so you might check for that adjustment screw.

The way all the other TC set triggers are adjusted is as folloows:

Relax the hammer all the way forward.

Unscrew the adjustment screw a few turns.

Squeeze/set the set trigger so it latches.

Turn the adjustment screw back in slowly until you finally hear it 'release' the firing trigger.

Then unscrew the adjustment screw 1 full turn.

Look behind the trigger guard, behind the rear trigger on the outside of the brass, where it curves up back into the wood. You'll see a small hex-head screw. There's your adjustment. In/more sensitive, out/less sensitive.

At least that's what's on my T/C Patriot, in my hot little hands at the moment...

I suggest you go to the T/C website and download a manual for your gun. You should be able to find the directions you need there.

Good Luck!

That's good to know...
:hatsoff:
I had no specific knowledge and was just wondering out loud that TC kinda-sorta-mighta made that set of triggers the same way as their rifles...should have known better with the Patriot's triggers being bass-ackwards from the rifle's configurations to begin with, huh.

I always thought the Patriot looked great...stumbled across a good buy on a new one from an estate sale for $200 a few years ago...got home, and with my big hands and discovering the firing trigger was actually in the rear, there was no point in my even getting it dirty...sold it the following week for $400.

Wish TC would make a larger framed version in Flint

Thanks mate,Ifound the hex head and have screwed in & out but it has not made any noticable difference except to my bloodpressure.I have had the barrel off and the hammer and sidelock out and it appears that the next step is to take the triggers out of the stock and see how the mechanism operates,I'll do that next week as I want to shoot it tomorrow. The factory evidently burnt down a number of years ago and the company is in new hands(S&W)No spares or .instructions are available unless someone out there has something they could scan and email to me, regards HOTELBRAVO.

Sounds like something is gumming up the works. To remove the trigger unit you need to remove the barrel/loosen the lock. There is a screw just below and ahead of the breech plug area that goes through the wood into the forward trigger unit. Remove that, and the brass screw at the back of the brass trigger guard, and the trigger unit will pull out (with a little force probably if you've never had it out). I'd look for some crud in and about the trigger unit.

The design is such that the internals don't really come too close to wood although you might want to see if either of the triggers are touching wood up near the sear engagement.

Hope all is well down under, have a good friend in Perth-nice country you have.

Speaking only of the standard style of set trigger found on Thompson Center rifles and assuming that the same may apply to the Patriot I'll say the little adjustment screw really does not adjust the weight of pull required on the real trigger to release the set trigger.

The screw adjusts the amount of engagement that the real triggers catch has with the spring loaded "set" trigger.
Adjusting it outward permits a greater amount of engagement of the release and thereby increases the amount of "creep", or movement required of the real trigger to fire the gun.
The actual spring on the real trigger which creates the weight of pull is very light weight and cannot be adjusted without replacing the spring.

PS: Here is a link to a free download of the Patriot Manual. It is a PDF file so you will need Acrobat to open it.

hotelbrovo If you figure out how to adjust trigger pull let me know my patriot has about 2oz pull . Scary! buster

Some people will try to sell anything.
The link I gave is the Thompson Center Owners manual and it's free.
As I mentioned, it is a PDF file and it requires Adobe Acrobat to open it but you can download Adobe Acrobat for free too.

Hi! Buster,it appears that the spring on the SET trigger is a very fine piece of spring wire,(not a coil)as i have a selection of piano wire i am going to see if i can duplicate the shape in a slightly thicker wire.
It looks pretty straightforward to get at it as their is only two small pins to push out,the whole set up is a lot less complicated than I imagined.Take the barrel out undo screws holding the triggers, they come out very easily, copy the wire spring and replace regards HOTELBRAVO

Hotelbravo I've had mine apart a few times and tried to make spring stiffer, and did but front trigger would not set. So if it works let me know. Thanks buster

Hi! buster, my spring wire was too thick and I need to get a better thickness,a little bit thinner but as its coming on to xmas will leave it to next year,I may even get a spring manufacturer to make me up a series of different sizes, and they have the correct machinery. I had some coil springs made up a couple of years ago,got about 4 for less than $20.
Just received a invitation to shoot at our state titles next March.Reg.fee $5.50 and $10 per match
will enter 50 and the 25 metre, place called Outtrim about three hours away from me but will book into a park or motel for the fri. & sat.Be good weather then ,end of summer here
merry xmas
