FWIW, these are carried by good camping outfitters.
(they are smooth stainless...for some reason the photo made them look striped with dark spots)

When I am out plinking for the day I will use a pin like what roundball has for my patches. For balls I will use a leather ball flask. For hunting I will use a small loading block with around 3 holes in it. When I can shoot multiple deer I will use one that has 6-8 holes in it.

The little pouch in the lower left below is a deerskin pouch saturated with molten beeswax when inside-out and then turned rightside-to. I use it to carry pre-lubed strips of patching and cut at the muzzle or when loading a ball-block.

The patching is soaked in Moose Juice and allowed to dry, so it's not overly goopy.

I sometimes carry balls and pre-lubed square patches( beeswax/bear grease) in a small pouch (3x5) and just grab one of each when needed the patches get a little soiled but I have not found it to be a problem.
