I've often read here the (good) advice to have a gun checked out by a qualified gunsmith who is familiar with black powder guns.

But how do you find such a person?

I've asked my friends and searched google and duckduckgo but haven't really found what I would consider good advice - only ads. Nothing at all relating to black powder.

Now, I will indeed make some calls whenever I have a problem but thought that maybe there was some Grand Unified Website that I didn't yet know about.

Joining a club and going to large shoots is where you can meet and learn about qualified ml gunsmiths. The two shoots a year at Berryville, Arkansas might be within your reach. I know a lot of Oakies show up there.

It's not that easy any more. It is mostly common sense so most gunsmiths will probably know enough to check a rifle out. Lock repairs not so much but the parts are pretty easy to find and fit. Good luck with your quest. Geo. T.
