I have never thought about the recoil being off center. Good info but im not getting one!

I've heard several people say that about Howdah pistols. Although I've never shot an original Howdah, I've not noticed such a feeling when shooting my Pedersoli Howdah pistol, with light or heavy loads. The recoil feels normal to me. :idunno: And I've gotten great accuracy with mine.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that that gun is a bigger caliber, and the weight, since that page says it's a lightweight pistol. The Pedersoli weighs about two pounds more. But that's just a guess.

I wouldn't let the comments about the accuracy of an old original gun dissuade you from buying a Pedersoli Howdah (assuming that's your only reason for not buying one). That would be like reading something about an old original Hawken having lousy accuracy so you decide not to buy a T/C Hawken.

Just my opinion.

The pistol is indeed very light, and at 16ga, it shoots a one ounce (437 gr) ball, which is heavy. As for accuracy, like most guns, especially BP guns, each with their own 'character', you just have to know how to use it properly and compensate for its characteristics. I can easily perforate a pie plate at 20 yards, and that is pinpoint accuracy for a pistol like this.

VERY NICE!!!

Have you tried it with a palm-full of shot?
(IF it was mine, I might well keep it loaded with buckshot for "prowlers" both 4 & 2-legged.)

Three decades ago I shot a "mad dog" literally on my front porch late one summer evening. - I've NEVER been W/O a loaded shotgun at home since.

satx,

Because it is a rare original, the only time I shot it was for the web page. It is so well made that it should be serviceable for the next few centuries, but if I accidentally dinged it or marred its almost perfect surface, I would cry many tear$$$.

So, my old colt long will have to do instead..

I guess that I'm "NUTS" but I still occasionally take my original family heirloom from TWBTS out to the range BUT I'm VERY careful with it.
(My theory is that firearms were made to use, unless they are literally irreplaceable.)

Also, my cousin Beverly occasionally still hunts quail with Swan Flying Parker's (our G-G-G Aunt, Partisan Ranger, shootist & "notorious killer of 'Loyal Union officers'") fine quality 14 gauge English double fowler.
(I've often wondered where Swan acquired such a fine firearm in Indian Territory, circa 1862.)

Fwiw, I think that your Purdy handgun is exquisite.

yours, satx

Well, of course that pistol is exquisite.

That's why it's called a Purdy.

If it wasn't nice looking they'd call it an Ugly.

:hmm:

Got mine last year @ $695(have you seen the prices?!? They are over $800 now!)It's a remake, but... That being said, the only advice I got was from DGW and that was starting load of 25 to 30 Gr. 2FF. Nothin on MV. Thanks for the share!

One neat side note, the one in the article? A LOT shorter frame and barrels than the Perdisoli remake. Brutal wldnt cover it!

same here. With a 30 gr 2FF charge and a .595 RB w a .015 patch; not much more than a buck in the hands. My buddy that I went to the range w DID get "cap burn" on his left wrist from firing the left barrel, (I had my coat on, didn't notice) but the recoil? Nah. It was a little spunkier w GOEX as compared to 777, that and the 777 gave me 3 out of 4 hang fires. BP? PoP POP POP every time, thank you very much! :)
